■ How it works?
Smoothfiller uses Wella’s Smart Delivery System to help the active ingredient penetrate deep into the hair fibre, where it helps fill gaps in the hair structure and create new lasting bonds. This helps restructure the hair from within rather than simply coating the surface. The result is smoother, softer, more manageable hair with less frizz, easier styling, and natural movement for up to 3 months.
■ How is it different from keratin treatments?
Smoothfiller is Wella’s new-generation approach to smoothing. It does not contain keratin or protein. Instead, it works by helping create a new kind of bond inside the hair to smooth and restructure it from within. Also unlike keratin treatments, there are no post-service restrictions and no need for a sulphate-free shampoo afterwards.
■ Can I colour my hair the same day?
In many cases, yes - but it depends on the type of colour service.
- Root retouch (up to 1cm) can be done before Smoothfiller ;
- Shinefinity Colour Gloss can be done after the service;
- Highlights or Balayage should also be done before Smoothfiller.
If you are planning permanent colour through the mid-lengths and ends, Wella recommends waiting at least 5 washes or around 2 weeks. Please note that colour applied after Smoothfiller may appear slightly lighter, warmer or less intense than usual, so your Vivo stylist will guide you on the best timing for your hair goals.
■ What to expect during the service?
Your Vivo stylist will begin with a consultation to talk through your hair goals and what you would like to achieve from the service. Once you are both aligned, your hair will be shampooed and pre-dried to around 80% dry. Smoothfiller is then carefully applied section by section, left to develop for 20 minutes and rinsed. To finish, the hair is fully blow-dried and heat-activated with a straightening iron to lock in the smoothing result. The service is designed to be an efficient in-salon treatment and is usually completed in under 2 hours, depending on your hair length and thickness.
■ Do I need to follow special aftercare?
Not at all. One of the best things about Smoothfiller is how easy it is to live with. There are no post-service restrictions, so you can wash, re-style, tie up or clip back your hair straight away. A sulfate-free shampoo is not required, which makes at-home maintenance simple. To help keep your hair feeling smooth, soft and nourished, we recommend the Wella Ultimate Smooth range as the ideal aftercare partner but other haircare products are suitable too.
Please note: You may notice a slight odour on the hair for the first few washes. This is a normal part of the treatment and is not harmful or permanent.
■ Can I have Smoothfiller during pregnancy?
Although Wella Smoothfiller is a low-fume, fragrance-free, dermatologically tested salon service, there has not been enough research to confirm its safety during pregnancy. For that reason, we recommend speaking with your doctor or midwife before booking, or waiting until after birth if you prefer to be extra cautious.
■ Are there any extra charges?
If you have long (below shoulder) and/or very thick hair, an extra charge from $25 would apply to cover the cost of the additional Smoothfiller product. We will advise you before we start - or you don't have to pay the extra.
■ Do you have flexible payment options?
